Bottom fishing in Cozumel  and Playa del Carmen is actually fishing with lighter tackle and just above the bottom to prevent getting hung up on our reefs. We do not anchor to fish to avoid damage to the reef system.  Due to this current, bottom fishing is more like drift fishing with baits just above the bottom of the sea floor or reef structures.
